The newly renovated community event and gallery space at the Coyote Twin Theaters will host an exhibition by local artist Susan M. Heggestad, from January 6th - February 17th, 2018. The current exhibit debuts mixed media works on paper completed over the past four years, exploring new territory: violence. The bodily experience of violence, the mental experience of violence, the transference of the ‘cycle of violence’, and healing from violence. Despite the intensity of the topic, viewers should not expect to see artwork that depicts graphic imagery. Viewers don’t necessarily pick up on the themes at first glance, although the presence of silhouettes of the human form do sometimes evoke an unsettled feeling. While some may question the need for artwork that addresses the topic of violence, we are all, to some degree, affected by violence. If we haven’t personally been affected, we most certainly know folks who have - it’s woven into the fabric of our daily lives. The artist will be donating 50% of any sales of work during this exhibition to two charities: Southeast CASA, www.southeastcasa.org - 25% RAINN (Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network), www.rainn.org – 25%.
