This interview originally aired on "In the Moment" on SDPB Radio.

A South Dakota scientific collaboration is exploring alternatives to synthetic fertilizer.

Researchers from South Dakota Mines, South Dakota State University, North Dakota State University and Sitting Bull College are seeking to create biofertilizers with support from a $4 million National Science Foundation award.

We talk to Prasoon Diwakar, Ph.D., and Tanvi Govil, Ph.D., about their hopes for a more sustainable and efficient fertilizer for South Dakota's croplands.

Diwakar is an assistant professor of mechanical engineering at South Dakota Mines. Govil is a chemical and biological engineering assistant professor at Mines.
