Sanford Health Acquires Biotech Firm Hematech

Sanford Health is buying a pharmaceutical research firm in Sioux Falls.

Sanford officials say the acquisition of Hematech will enhance Sanford’s own research capabilities.

Hematech was founded in 1998 and works to produce human antibodies in genetically
engineered cattle as medicine for humans.

Ruth Krystopolski    is the Executive Vice President of Development and research at Sanford Health.   She says the Japanese company that formerly owned Hematech planned to close the facility in Sioux Falls.  She says this acquisition keeps the company open and keeps 36 high paying jobs in the area.

“So not only were we able to keep the jobs here in South Dakota we’re hoping to grow that business and make it a valuable resource for Sanford Health and for the state,” says Krystopolski

Krystopolski  says the new company will be rebranded to Sanford Applied Biosciences, LLC.
