Black Hills FLDS Compound Leader Arrested

Federal prosecutorsindicted top leaders of Warren Jeffs' polygamous sect for food stamp fraud and money laundering.

Officials with U.S. Attorney's Office say leaders of the sect diverted funds from Utah's nutrition assistance program for inappropriate use.

Eleven people are charged in the scheme, including Lyle Jeffs and Seth Jeffs, who are brothers of imprisoned polygamous leader Warren Jeffs.

Seth Jeffs leads a branch of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, or FLDS in the Black Hills.  The group owns land and several secluded buildings near the town of Pringle.

An official with the Department of Justice says the initial appearance for Seth Jeffs is set for Wednesday at 02:20 PM in the Rapid City federal courthouse before US Magistrate Judge Daneta Wollmann.

Federal officials also argue that Seth and Lyle Jeffs pose a flight risk and should not be immediately released on bond.
