Washington Post Executive Editor Martin Baron

The winner of the 2017 Al Neuharth Award for Excellence in the Media is in Vermillion for a public forum in the Freedom Forum Conference Room on the University of South Dakota campus.

Marty Baron is executive editor of The Washington Post. He took the helm there in 2012.
The Washington Post newsroom was recently honored with the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting (for the paper's dogged reporting on Republican Senate candidate Roy S. Moore.)They shared the 2018 Pulitzer for National Reporting (with the New York Times) for their report on the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

And, if you're keeping track, Baron was also portrayed in the Academy Award-winning film "Spotlight," a look at his time at the Boston Globe, when the newspaper uncovered a sex abuse scandal in the Catholic Archdiocese of Boston.
