Last Week Of Session: Lawmakers Will Tackle Juvenile Justice Reform, Road Funding and Budget

This is the last week of legislative session and lawmakers still have to vote on three very important measures. The legislature will take up road funding, juvenile justice reform and the state’s general funding bill.

Members of the appropriations committee will hear revenue estimates this morning from the Legislative Research Council and the Bureau of Finance and Management. Appropriators will take the two numbers from LRC and BFM and adopt revenue projections for the fiscal year 2016 budget. Governor Dennis Daugaard says revenue projections are down from his initial budget proposal.

"Based on their decision of where revenue is likely to fall for fiscal year 16 then we’ll have to judge whether the proposed expenditures I offered in the suggested budget last December have to be reduced," says Daugaard, "And I think it’s, it’s very possible we may need to do that."

Daugaard says revenues are also down for fiscal year 2015 but only by a small percentage so appropriators won’t have to make major adjustments to the current budget.
