The South Dakota Supreme Court is in session this week in Pierre. On Tuesday Justices heard arguments on behalf of Brett Jarman, who was denied law enforcement officer certification in February. He applied for certification so he could run for sheriff in Fall River County. The state Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Training Commission turned him down, citing poor moral character, even though he was acquitted of aggravated assault against a girlfriend and his record was expunged.
