Community-based Services Offer Juveniles Support, Better Outcomes

A juvenile justice workgroup has released recommendations to cap terms of probation and out-of-home placements and focus on community services. Doug Herrmann is director of juvenile services with the Department of Corrections. He tells SDPB’s Victoria Wicks that treating kids early on in the community can prevent negative behavior from escalating and can save the state money.
