In early October the U.S. Supreme Court declined to take on the issue of gay marriage. Circuit courts of appeals had been uniformly ruling that states’ bans on same-sex marriage are unconstitutional. But last week the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals sided with a state ban, and now the courts are split. Couples in Ohio have already filed with the high court, asking justices to take on the issue. They say their marriages and their adoptions should be given equal legal status by the state.
