Third Audit Of GOED Released

Another audit of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development or GOED following the EB-5 scandal is now available to the public.  It can be found here.

Lieutenant Governor Matt Michaels says the results of this third audit of the GOED found no misconduct outside what has already been reported on by the Attorney General’s investigation.

“I’m pleased that there was nothing additional found but also the weaknesses are being addressed in terms of the accounting process double checks and things like that,” says Michaels.

Michaels says the audits make the GOED stronger and more accountable.

The governor’s office says this third audit was conducted by the Department of Legislative Audit, an independent accounting agency that reports to the state Legislature, not the Executive Branch.

The scrutiny of financial records comes after allegations that former members of the office engaged in embezzlement and fraud involving over a half-million dollars in funds.
