Homicide Investigation In Art Alley

Rapid City police are investigating a homicide that occurred in the heart of they city’s downtown.

The body of 44-year-old Lamaure Afraidofhawk  was found Tuesday night in Art Alley behind a bar called the Brass Rail.   

Preliminary autopsy results show Afraidofhawk died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.

Tarah Heupel with the Rapid City Police Department says detectives are looking for anyone at all who may have information.

“The big message we want to get out today is anyone at the Brass Rail on Tuesday evening police would like to speak with them they may have information that’s important that they don’t even know is important.   So if those folks could please contact detectives they would like to speak with them as soon as possible,” says Heupel.

Police found the victim at about 9:00 p.m. after a disturbance call came in from the bar about a male refusing to leave.

When officers arrived, they found 19-year-old Angelo Richards of Rapid City in the restroom.   He is charged with resisting arrest and minor consuming.

Richards is being questioned in the homicide investigation but no charges have been filed.
