An upcoming workshop invites you to tap into a sticky new hobby. The SDSU Extension and McCrory Gardens in Brookings will hold their annual maple syrup workshop this Saturday.
We learn how to tap a South Dakota maple or birch tree and recipes for how to use the sap. While syrup is a traditional option, sap can also be used to make a sugary drink called "sap on tap."
John Ball, Ph.D., is a professor at South Dakota State University and an SDSU Extension forestry specialist. He says he uses sap on tap to brew his morning coffee.
