Cyber-physical systems technology is a new field that researchers say will transform the way people interact with engineered systems in the same way the internet has transformed the way people interact with information. But because cyber-physical systems are subject to threats that could undermine the national and economic security of the United States, researchers are looking for ways to strengthen the systems.
Charles Tolle is among those researchers. He's an associate professor at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and senior researcher at the Idaho National Laboratory. He and his teammates were recently recognized with a special Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers award for leadership in the development and advancement of research in the field of resilient cyber-physical systems.
Dr. Tolle joined Dakota Midday and discussed how developing resilient cyber-physical systems takes a multi-disciplinary approach.
