South Dakota Public Broadcasting is proud to announce that Season 3 of the podcast program ‘In Play with Craig Mattick’ will begin next week. This show highlights some of the best teams, players, and coaches from South Dakota’s past, and during its third season, the journey of diving into the high school sports history book will continue.
“High school athletics are huge in South Dakota, whether it’s football or volleyball, soccer, wrestling, basketball, you name it – South Dakota loves high school sports,” said Craig Mattick, In Play podcast host. “There are a few generations that might not know about some of the stories from back in the 70’s and 80’s, it’s great to catch up with these coaches and athletes and re-live some of those glory days.”
Some of the past episodes include highlighting the life of basketball legend Harold Thune, re-visiting Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s 111 game win streak in girls hoops, and talking with Lolly Forseth, South Dakota’s first high school female athletic director and former gymnastics coach. In total, 'In Play with Craig Mattick' has thirty-six episodes to date.
“It is a lot of storytelling and storytelling of the athletes, the coaches, and the teams of the past,” Mattick explained. “There’s probably not a lot of people that probably know what happened 20-30 years ago, so we want to focus on those athletes and tell their story, because there’s great stories, not only success on the court or field, but also what they’re doing now as an adult.”
The first episode of the new season of ‘In Play with Craig Mattick’ will release on Tuesday September 13th. Be sure to subscribe to the podcast through Apple or Spotify today.
