Mattie Weidenbach chosen to represent South Dakota at national golf event

Harrisburg’s Mattie Weidenbach will represent South Dakota this coming September at the 2022 PURE Insurance Championship Impacting First Tee event. Weidenbach, who will be a senior this coming fall at Harrisburg high school, has been involved with First Tee – South Dakota for 12-years.

First Tee is a ‘youth development organization that teaches life skills and helps kids and teens build strength of character through golf.’

Weidenbach, along with 77 other teens from other various First Tee chapters throughout the nation and parts of the world, were chosen by a committee of judges who look for “personal growth and development, as well as their playing ability” when deciding the individuals.

In a press release on Tuesday, First Tee CEO Greg McLaughlin congratulated Weidenbach on the well-deserved honor.

“Congratulations to Mattie who has been selected to play and represent First Tee – South Dakota on a national stage. Her hard work and commitment to academic and personal growth through our program has secured this opportunity,” explained McLaughlin.

Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill Golf Course, two well-known courses on the west coast in California, will play host to the 2022 Pure Insurance Championship event on September 20-25. Day one and two (Friday and Saturday) will consist of regular play with all nominated participants. Day three on the Sunday will take the top 23 First Tee Juniors, who will compete in a 36-hole contest. From there, one boy and one girl will be announced a winner.

Weidenbach placed sixth place at the 2022 ‘AA’ girls state golf tournament in Brookings this June. She shot +8 on day one of the state tournament, but then shot just +4 on day two to finish with a +12 for the event. She also earned Top-25 and all-tournament honors, and played a role in helping the Harrisburg Tigers win the ‘AA’ girls team state championship.
