Secretary Visits Campus

The South Dakota Secretary of State likes to know what young people are talking about. This week she visited a South Dakota campus to interact with students and talk about current issues.

Secretary of State Shantel Krebs talked with students from USD’s state Government and Politics class. Krebs says she enjoys the questions and also wants to know what concerns the students have.

“They were asking me questions and I said you know what let me turn these questions around and ask them to you. You know what issues are you guess concerned about, at your age what are your concerns? What do you think about on a day basis? Do you think that, what should government provide for you? Do you feel that it should be user based fees versus a different tax structure? So it was nice to hear that feedback, we talked a little bit about journalism. And talking about news sources, you know the valid news sources such as a TV or a radio news station or a newspaper print association, versus a blog. What information is factual and how do you decipher that at that age?” says Krebs.

Krebs also emphasizes the need for college student to register to vote. She says policies that don’t affect students today will affect them in the future.
