On today's update...

School lunches, a vital source of nutrition for kids across the state, are no longer a promise after COVID-related funding lapsed this year. Rapid City Area Schools Superintendent Nicole Swigart says the state's lunch debt isn't evenly distributed.

It's looking more likely Rapid City residents should prepare for a utility hike. The local council, after a brief delay, advanced a proposal to raise water rates. The issue is now just one vote from becoming policy.

Excavation of three underground caverns to study neutrinos in the Sanford Underground Research Facility in Lead is nearly complete. Two caverns are already finished and officials expect the last one will get fully excavated in weeks.

Each year, a South Dakota teacher is named the recipient of the Milken Educator Award and a $25,000 prize. This year, the recognition goes to a Rosebud Sioux educator in Todd County.

From now to the end of the year, all donations to Feeding South Dakota will double thanks to a $35,000 matching gift. The Marketing and Communications Director of the organization says the gift will allow them to make a bigger impact.

And more.
