Today, Governor Kristi Noem ordered flags be flown at half-staff statewide effective immediately until sunset on Saturday, May 28, 2022, in honor of the victims of the tragic shooting in Uvalde, TX. Noem is scheduled to speak at the National Rifle Association’s annual meeting Friday in Houston, Texas.

A Pine Ridge man, accused in a shooting that left the victim partially paralyzed, has been found guilty of eight federal charges.

New federal grant money will help three South Dakota tribal reservations gain better internet access. $77 million dollars will go to tribal governments in ten states. It will create more affordable internet service programs and buy new equipment.

Emerald ash borers are an invasive species that have been reported in Minnehaha and Lincoln County. Some common signs of ash borer infestations are woodpecker holes and “blonding,” where woodpeckers strip the outside bark of an infested tree to eat the ash borers inside.

South Dakota’s Pine Ridge Reservation has often been depicted in film but rarely from the inside. The Cannes Film Festival entry “War Pony,” though, sought to capture daily life on the reservation by relying on the perspectives of its native residents.
