In The Moment ... August 11, 2017 Show 154 Hour 1

What draws you to American roots music? What draws you into deeper relationship with other human beings? Musicians Dennis James and Lauryn Shapter find inspiration in the brokenness and vulnerability of humanity.

They call themselves the Society of Broken Souls. Their new album is "Things Still Left Unsaid." The duo plays today at the Old Courthouse Museum in Sioux Falls, tomorrow night at Parker's Bistro, and Sunday at the Strawbale Winery. Lauryn and Dennis stopped by the SDPB studios yesterday to unpack part of their traveling road show and play some music for this week's Moment in Sound.

How well do you understand the arts scene in the community in which you live. Sometimes to understand something you love (or disdain) spending time documenting it can open your eyes once again. Dempsey Kevin Tapley created a documentary called "Beware the Locals." It's showing at Total Drag in Sioux Falls on Sunday, August 13 at 6:30 p.m.
