Non-natives who commit acts of violence against Native women on tribal lands can now face arrest and prosecution in some tribal courts.

Prior to the new Violence Against Women Act tribes didn’t have the authority to go after non-natives inside reservation boundaries.

Not all tribes have yet implemented their new powers but many tribal officials see this as a game changer for the safety and justice of Native women.
