Black Hills State University in Spearfish has met and exceeded its fundraising goal. The University’s “Building on Strength and Stature” capital campaign began in 2008 with a goal of 22 million dollars. University officials say they ended up raising more than 26 million.

BHSU President Dr. Kay Schallenkamp says University alumni and community members helped make the goal a reality.

“Again it demonstrates that there are many people out there that believe in what we’re doing, believe in what we have done, and most importantly have captured the vision and the pride of Black Hills State University. We are a force to be reckoned with and folks are beginning to realize that. And so, yes, today we are celebrating the culmination of our first ever major gift campaign or capital campaign,” says Schallenkamp.

University officials say more than half the money raised is going towards additional student scholarships. They say the campaign also provides funds for campus construction, renovations, and upgrades to athletic facilities.
