Farm To School Program Big In Wessington Springs

Across the country, and increasing number of schools and districts have begun to source more foods locally and to provide complementary educational activities to students that emphasize food, farming, and nutrition. This nationwide movement to enrich children's bodies and minds wile supporting local economies is often referred to as "farm to school." A census of the Farm To School program shows Wessington Springs spends half of its budget on locally grown food--mostly fruits and vegetables. Wessington Springs Superintendent Lance Witte joined the program to discuss his school's focus on healthy eating.
