Gas Pump Skimmers Steal Credit Card Numbers

If you bought gas in Rapid City with a credit or debit card you should check your bank account.

Rapid City Police are investigating a series of credit card skimmers found inside gas pumps around town.

The skimmers are small devices placed in the pumps by thieves. They steal credit card information whenever someone swipes a card.

While several types of skimmers exist, the ones found in Rapid City so far were placed inside the pumps not visible to consumers.

Rapid City Police are actively working with gas stations across town to identify and remove any additional skimmers. Detectives are also working to identify the persons responsible for this criminal activity.

Police officials recommend monitoring your bank accounts and credit cards for signs of fraudulent activity. If you discover fraudulent charges on your account, report it to your financial institution immediately.
