Gov. Kristi Noem has appointed Randy Frederick and Randy Rasmussen to the South Dakota Board of Regents.

Noem said in a statement she continues to prioritize adjusting higher education standards with her selections.

“Together, we will work to provide an education that truly prepares our kids for the world they are entering without indoctrinating them with harmful, divisive ideologies” Noem said.

Frederick previously served in the South Dakota State Legislature and acted as Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee.

“Free speech has been under attack at too many universities across the nation,” Frederick said. “I would like to thank Gov. Noem for the opportunity to serve the great people of our state.”

Rasmussen is a long-time resident of Vermilion. He graduated from the University of South Dakota and earned his master’s degree in business administration from Grand Canyon University.

“Higher education should teach students to think critically, independently, and form their own conclusions,” Rasmussen said. “Students need a curriculum that not only prepares them for a career but gives them solid understanding of civic virtue that allows them to contribute to their community in a representative republic.”

Frederick will replace outgoing board member Jim Thares, and Rasmussen will serve the remainder of John Bastian’s term.
