Black Hills Energy officials warn of phone scam

Black Hills Energy officials are warning customers of a phone scam.

In the scam, the caller says the customer’s bill is delinquent and their service will be disconnected if they don’t immediately provide payment over the phone or call a specified 800 number.

Officials say if a customer receives a call requesting immediate payment, do not call the specified number back and do not make a payment.

Instead, customers should verify their account status by logging into their online account or by calling the customer service number listed on the Black Hills Energy website or the customer's utility bill.
