South Dakota has received over $16 million in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Justice to support public safety and community courts.

Over $8 million was granted to the state for the Attorney General's office, Department of Corrections, and Department of Public Safety, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office District of South Dakota.

More than $5.4 million is going to seven tribal governments.

The U.S. DOJ is awarding over $3.7 billion in grants and funding nationwide. These grants aim to accelerate justice system reforms, expand victim services, improve the juvenile justice system, and promote public safety.
