The Big Read-Aberdeen Author Talk with Sarah Smarsh

The Big Read-Aberdeen Author Talk with Sarah Smarsh

The Big Read-Aberdeen Author Talk with Sarah Smarsh-Thursday, April 25th at 6:30 PM.
Join us in welcoming The Big Read-Aberdeen author Sarah Smarsh as she talks about her deeply moving memoir, “Heartland: A Memoir of Working Hard and Being Broke in the Richest County on Earth,” Thursday, April 25th at 6:30 PM. Smarsh shares stories of her family living in rural Kansas during the 1980’s and 90’s and brings to light working class people who are often invisible. Her personal history affirms the corrosive impact intergenerational poverty can have on individuals, families, and communities.

Light refreshments will be served at 6:00 PM with the author talk to follow. Books will be available for purchase, courtesy of the Dacotah Prairie museum. There will be a Q&A session after the author talk.
The Big Read-Aberdeen is funded by a grant from the National Endowment of the Arts, Aberdeen Area Community Foundation, and the Aberdeen Library Foundation and brought to you by the K.O. Lee Aberdeen Public Library in partnership with the Aberdeen Area Arts Council, Natural Abundance Food Co-Op, Dacotah Prairie Museum, and Prairie Partners Master Gardeners.
An initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest, the NEA Big Read broadens our understanding of our world, our communities, and ourselves through the power of a shared reading experience.
