The Biden Administration is issuing an emergency waiver allowing the sale of E15 gasoline this summer.
It’s the third year in a row the White House has issued the waiver.
Officials said the move comes due to higher gas prices caused by conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.
“Allowing E15 sales during the summer driving season will increase fuel supply, while supporting American farmers, strengthening our nation’s energy security, and providing relief to drivers across the country,” said EPA Administrator Michael Regan.
The EPA normally bans E15 during the warmer summer months because of concerns about air pollution.
Several lawmakers, including South Dakota’s congressional delegation, urged the Biden Administration to grant a waiver again this year.
Back in February, the White House approved a request from several Midwestern states – including South Dakota – allowing permanent year-round sale of E15. However, that new rule doesn’t take effect until 2025.
