The South Dakota Hall of Fame has enshrined more than 700 South Dakotans. Its mission is to champion a culture of excellence and to preserve the stories of South Dakotans who played a big part in that culture. Grace Martin Highley was a trailblazer in child welfare. In the late 1930s, she became the director of South Dakota Child Welfare. Karen Martin Lockhart is Grace Martin Highley’s granddaughter.
An in-person honors ceremony for the class of 2022 is in Chamberlain/Oacoma on September 9 and 10.
