A stone monument sits at the crest of the hill as you travel north along Cliff Avenue near the South Dakota State Penitentiary. This was built in the late 1940s to observe the lives of Minnehaha County pioneers. Some think this relates to the Amidon Affair but there is a separate bronze marker for that on the site.
