One of the season's first blasts of winter weather is resulting in poor driving conditions in areas of South Dakota, particularly in the southeast part of the state.
Snow began falling Monday night and continued into Tuesday morning. According to the National Weather Service, the main band of snowfall runs from Vermillion and Yankton up to Sioux Falls, with between 2-6 inches of snow expected. Counties in this region are in a winter weather advisory through 6 p.m. CT.
Light snow will continue this morning, then a band of snow will develop across parts of the area. Accumulations are expected to be between 2-6 inches with the heavier accumulations occurring beneath the snow band. Communities as far north as Brookings and Huron may also see snow Tuesday. The heart of the system extends from northeast Nebraska through northwest Iowa and southwest Minnesota. Follow the latest conditions at the National Weather Service website.

The Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office tweeted deputies are responding to "multiple" accidents Tuesday morning.
While this is the first significant snowfall in southeast South Dakota this season, areas in the Black Hills and the north central South Dakota saw heavy snowfalls earlier this month.
