Rapid City saw record high temperatures yesterday. Downtown reached up to 105 degrees, setting a new daily record that hasn't occurred since 1934.
Statewide high temperatures were recorded, with temps in the high 90s and into the 100s across West River.
Shane Eagan, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Rapid City, said that in times of high heat, their main concern is preventing wildfires.
"We're moving more from severe weather threats to more of a fire-weather threat for the rest of the summer," he said.
The new daily temperature record is just two degrees shy of the all-time record of 107 degrees in Rapid City that was set in July, 1954.
