Today, across South Dakota, volunteers are flooding schools and libraries to Read for the Record. This year's book is called Thank You, Oma! It's all about the power of sharing.

Bill Pay got his start in the photography business as an errand boy for a Sioux Falls studio. After college, he opened his own retail store at 30th and Minnesota.

His vast photo collection includes both aerial and ground shots, landmark buildings, undeveloped land and more.

Pay is hosting a virtual tour of Sioux Falls on Wednesday, August 14, at Siouxland Libraries' Caille Branch at 4100 South Carnegie Circle in Sioux Falls.

Sarah Wakefield wrote one of the most well-known captivity narratives of the late 1800s. She wrote it just more than a year after being released from captivity.

South Dakota author Phyllis Cole-Dai has written a book of historical fiction based on Wakefield's life. It's called Beneath the Same Stars. It's a look at the deeper story of Wakefield's life enmeshed as it was in the events of the U.S./Dakota War of 1862.

The Siouxland Libraries have chosen "Prairie Fires: The American Dreams of Laura Ingalls Wilder" as the 2019 One Book Siouxland selection.

Prairie Fires is the winner of the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Biography, the National Book Critics Circle Award for Biography, the 2018 Heartland Prize for Nonfiction, and was named one of the New York Times' "10 Best Books of the Year."

Fresh off yesterdays' announcement, branch librarian Jane Taylor and library director Jodi Fick joined us in the SDPB Sioux Falls Studio.

You spent the summer reading and voting for your favorite novels, now tune in to see which books celebrities, authors, and other readers across the country are rooting for. The Great American Read Fall Kick-off premieres tonight on SDPB-TV at 7 p.m. CDT / 6 p.m. MDT.

Tonight's episode features thoughts from authors and leaders such as John Green, Venus Williams, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, and Barbara Bush.

A library in Sioux Falls is partnering with Feeding South Dakota to provide after-school snacks for elementary students.

At 3 o'clock on a school day, students at Anne Sullivan Middle School walk across the street to Oak View Library while they wait to get picked up. Director of Siouxland Libraries  Mary Johns says staff had the idea of asking Feeding South Dakota if the two groups could partner to provide a snack for students who stay late in the evening waiting for parents.
