Frontline heath care workers across South Dakota are getting their first dose of a coronavirus vaccine. The state received 7,800 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

  

A Monument Health nurse prepares the first Pfizer vaccines for emergency room physicians who treat COVID-19 patients. Dr. Steve Dick is the first to receive the vaccine in Rapid City.

Dick is the director of Emergency Medicine at Monument Health. He s wanted to get the vaccine in solidarity with the ER team and all they’ve gone through since March.

The first shipment of COVID-19 vaccines arrived in South Dakota Monday morning.

The state received 78-hundred doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. Most of them are staying in Sioux Falls, where frontline healthcare workers will receive the first of two doses.

Nearly three-thousand vaccine doses arrived in Avera’s shipping dock just before nine on Monday morning. Another three thousand went to Sanford, and 975 went to Monument Health in Rapid City.

Newly Renovated Egan Church Is Ready For Worship

Although Egan Methodist Church officially closed earlier this year, the 110-year-old building will open to the public during the holiday season.

On Christmas Eve, from noon to 10 p.m., the church's new owners are opening the doors for a look inside. They have renovated the building's outside and readied the sanctuary with holiday decorations and treats to welcome home families who have worshipped there for years.
