Senate Bill 66 Dies In Committee

The State Senate Judiciary Committee struck down a bill aiming to protect clergy who refuse to perform a marriage of a same sex couple. Proponents say the bill makes a necessary political statement, affirms religious freedoms, and safeguards clergy against future lawsuits. But opponents counter that the bill is unnecessary, redundant, and sends a bad message about South Dakota.

Sister Simone Campbell To Talk At Mount Marty

Mount Marty College's Benedictine Institute of Leadership, Ethics and Social Justice is hosting a September 12 visit to its Yankton campus by Sister Simone Campbell, the Executive Director of NETWORK, a National Catholic Social Justice Lobby. Sister Campbell is presenting the lecture "Health Care and the Poor" in Marian Auditorium Thursday evening beginning at 7:30.
