Sean Sherman is originally from Pine Ridge. He's now known as the Sioux Chef, and he's credited with revitalizing and re-imagining Native American cuisine.

He's just been named as a  20-18 Bush Fellow and his 20-17 cookbook "The Sioux Chef's Indigenous Kitchen" is one of three nominees for a 2018 James Beard Foundation Book Award in the American category.

Sewing Group Brings People Together

A local group is bringing people together to share stories, laughs and fabric. The Lakota Sewing Circle invites the community to break out their machines and learn new techniques.

The Lakota Sewing Circle meets twice a month at the Racing Magpie in Rapid City. Today there are 5 women sitting behind piles of neatly folded fabric, sewing machines or threaded needles. This group makes a lot of jokes.

An art gallery in Rapid City is trying to open a conversation about contemporary Native American art.

The historic Aby's Feed and Seed building catches the eye of many who drive down a busy street in Rapid City. But the mill doesn’t offer bags of grain to locals anymore. Now it’s the home to the Racing Magpie gallery.

As director of interfaith dialog at the Muslim Community Center of South Dakota in Sioux Falls, Dr. Qamar is often asked to talk about his faith with those who are curious or even suspicious. He discusses his journey to the United States, raising Muslim children in Sioux Falls, and how conversations with Christians and non-Muslims have helped him grow the depth of his own faith.
