In The Moment ... March 15, 2017 Show 050 Hour 1

John Seiber of KDLO Country in Watertown joined the program this week to discuss the passing and legacy of Pat Summitt. In 38 seasons with the University of Tennessee, Summitt won eight national championships, including 1,098 career wins, which is the most in NCAA basketball history - men's and women's. Seiber joined the program to discuss some of his memories with the legendary coach, and to talk about his time living in Tennessee.

People in Sioux Falls are preparing to host a round of NCAA basketball. Friday and Sunday Division I Women’s Basketball attracts players and fans from the University of South Carolina, Ohio State, Syracuse and the University of Tennessee.

Mayor Mike Huether says the combination of visitors and ESPN’s coverage of the regional tournament offer an economic development advantage for Sioux Falls.

The Summit League

The 2016 Summit League Basketball Championships will take place in Sioux Falls this weekend at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center. Both South Dakota State and the University of South Dakota are competing in men’s and women’s hoops for a conference title, and for a spot in the men’s and women’s NCAA tournaments.

Deondre Parks, a senior guard for the South Dakota State University men's basketball team, joined the program to talk about being an SDSU Jackrabbit. Also, Parks is from Flint, Michigan, a community that has been plagued by contaminated water. He has family who still lives there - battling the issue of water on a daily basis. In his conversation with SDPB's Nate Wek, Parks explains the situation his family is currently facing. He also speaks of the support he has received from his teammates and coaches, and from the community of Brookings.

Former NSU Men's Basketball Coach Meyer Dies

     Basketball fans and others inspired by the life of Don Meyer are paying tribute to the long-time coach, who died in Aberdeen Sunday morning. Meyer had success at three college programs, including Northern State University, where he set a record for career coaching wins in men’s basketball. Meyer credited his success to a philosophy of finding the right players and holding them accountable.

USD Women Face Stanford

After winning the Summit League Tournament Championship last week, the University of South Dakota women's basketball team has qualified for the NCAA Division 1 Women's Tournament.  USD faces Stanford in Ames, Iowa this Saturday afternoon.  Second-year head coach Amy Williams talked about the team's season and trip to the national tournament.

Sioux Falls To Host Eight NCAA Events

The NCAA has chosen Sioux Falls as the host city for eight sports events. The first one happens in March of 2015, and the last championship announced is scheduled for May 2018.
