South Dakota State Historical Society

Three South Dakota properties are being added to the National Register of Historic Places.

The properties are the Doland Commercial Historic District, Jefferson School in Huron, and the Midland Depot.

Sofia Mattesini is the Northern Historic Preservation Specialist for the South Dakota State Historical Society. She said that preserving these historic places in beneficial for South Dakota communities.

This is Mike Pedersen's 27th year opening the Nora Store's doors and inviting people to join in for Christmas caroling and hymn singing. Pedersen plays the pipe organ and some visitors even share their own musical talents as the spirit of Christmas comes alive. Guests also enjoy donations of coffee and cider as well as Christmas cookies baked by neighbors. The Nora Store is on the National Register of Historic Places. South Dakota State Historical Society

The South Dakota Historical Society is looking for public nominations of places and buildings to add to the National Register of Historic Places.

Along with nominations to the national register, officials say they’re also interested in learning about other properties in the state that are in disrepair or in danger of being lost to development.   Jay Vogt is with the Historic Preservation Society.
