Mural

Regional Health

According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, one in eight women in the United States is diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. For the second year in a row Regional Health is seeking artist submissions for a mural to mark National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. A 10-by-14-foot space in Art Alley in Rapid City has been selected for the mural.

Dustin Hirsch is the outreach liaison with Regional Health. He says public art is a good way to reach a wide audience.

Legacy of Corn Palace Continues

Jul 23, 2014
Mitchell Corn Palace

When Mitchell’s first Corn Palace was built in 1892, it was only one of at least 34 grain palaces in the Midwest from the 1880s to the 1930s. The current Mitchell Corn Palace was built in 1921 and it’s the only one of the “prairie palaces” that’s survived. The familiar Moorish-style minarets and turrets were added to the building’s roof in 1937 to recreate the look of the earlier corn palaces.

Celebration Of Meldrum Park Mural Tonight

Jul 31, 2013

Dave Loewenstein and Ashley Laird are mural artists from Lawrence, Kansas, who've been creating a mural in Sioux Falls' Whittier neighborhood's Meldrum Park. They attended community meetings and visited public schools in Sioux Falls to understand the international character of the neighborhood earlier this year before starting work on the mural. Tonight at 6, the public is invited to help celebrate Meldrum Park's incredible new 150 foot long mural. Mayor Mike Huether and other distinguished guests will speak. The mural is located at the corner of 6th & Lewis.
