In the midst of all the chaos that surrounds us, we were more than pleased to learn about a new album from Chad Elliott.

The Iowa based singer/songwriter last joined us almost one year ago - last December for a live Moment in Sound prior to performing at the AME Chapel in Yankton.

Elliott's new album, Tangle with the Ghost, came out last Friday. It's his 24th album!

Rock and Roll fans across the country, and certainly here in the Midwest, felt the loss of Randall Zwart when he passed away in April after a battle with cancer. Next Saturday, October 17, the public is welcome to a free Celebration of Life for Randall Zwart, complete with music, stories, and more. 

Randall's brother Bob Zwart fronted Zwarte and went on to perform with Judd Hoos. He's joining us this morning to detail next weekend's Celebration of Life for his brother Randall in Sioux Falls.

Since then, Ryan has released what he's calling his first "fully South Dakota-born single and music video for a song called "Fight the Tide." We're happy to have him back with us this morning to visit about the conception and inspiration for the project.

Earlier this year we were delighted to feature Scott Simpson's Tiny Desk Contest entry on In The Moment - a beautiful song called "Sings." We wanted to bring him to the program for one of our Moment in Sound segments but, unfortunately, our studios have been closed due to the coronavirus. The next best thing is to have Scott Simpson join us by phone today - just a day ahead of the release of his new album, Ozzie's Guitar 20 Years Later. It's a rich display of the genres in which the multi-instrumentalist can take a deep dive.

He organizes the South Dakota Songwriters group and activities around the Black Hills area and puts together songwriters rounds for other local artists. His musical influences range from classic country, to modern Americana, folk, and red dirt music.

The Wake Singers formed while attending art school in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The three cousins, Doug, Mike, and Marty Two Bulls are originally from Red Shirt Table, South Dakota.

Dustin Tucker is a little bit of a self-admitted wild child. Born and raised mostly in Rapid City, he spent part of his teens at his uncle's ranch in Newell. He began playing guitar at the age of 15 and started writing his own songs at 19.

Dustin Tucker performs at the Leap Day Singer/Songwriter Showcase at Miner Brewing Company in Hill City Saturday, February 29th. The event begins at 2:00 p.m.

juQ is the performance name of Oglala Lakota singer and songwriter Wanbli Ceya. He's an artist and an advocate working to get the language and culture of his people back to life, to get them to sobriety, and to get them to heal. It's the dynamic that drives him wherever he goes.

juQ joins us after having just released his part Lakota language album, "nya", which is the 2nd chapter to his life story, "The Oglala Wolf Puppy with PTSD.” In this segment, you'll hear some music from his November release.

South Dakota native Rory Hoffman has returned to the state for a performance Thursday night at the Fine Arts Theater in the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City.

Hoffman is a multi-instrumentalist who started learning to play the guitar at the age of three. Hoffman, born blind, lives in Nashville. He's a 2012 inductee into the South Dakota Country Music Hall of Fame.

Chad Elliot is a singer, songwriter, artist, author, and storyteller. He performs later tonight at the AME Allen Chapel in Yankton as part of their Little White Church sessions.  He recently released his 22nd album, "King Pelican." It was recorded live with his band, The Redemptions, during a set for The Sun Studio Sessions documentary series featured on PBS.

For today's Moment in Sound we welcome a leading musician on the Nordic folk music scene ahead of a performance Saturday, November 16 at the Canton Depot Museum as part of the Carnegie Center for the Arts in Canton.  Vidar Skrede has an extensive background in traditional music and a master degree in Nordic folk music from the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm. His recordings have been honored at the Norwegian Folk Music Awards and the Finnish Grammy Award.  He joins us today from the Kirby Family Studio inside SDPB's Sioux Falls Studio.

Darren Jackson grew up in western South Dakota but cut his musical teeth in Minneapolis. He returned to the state and now makes music and art as well as teaches.

Darren plays under the musical monicker Kid Dakota. He's released nine albums and won three Minnesota Music Awards including "Artist of the Year." He's shared the stage with bands like the Violent Femmes and Soul Asylum. His albums include "So Pretty" and "Denervation." He recently released the single "Age of Roaches."

Sioux Falls musician Josh Rieck sees the world of guitar building as a beautiful crossroad of music and visual art. He began studying the craft in 2002. After completing his master's degree at the University of South Dakota he studied the history of musical instruments at the National Music Museum in Vermillion. The luthier constructs new instruments and repairs injured ones at J. Rick Lutherie in Sioux Falls.
