State employees and education organizations are hopeful with Governor Kristi Noem’s first budget presentation.

In it, she calls for a point two percent increase in funding to both entities from what former Governor Dennis Daugaard recommended. 

Governor Noem wants a market adjustment increase in compensation for all permanent state employees of 2.5 percent.

Noem To Deliver Budget Wednesday

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem says she will deliver her first budget address on Wednesday, January 23rd.

Noem says she informed legislative leadership Thursday morning.

Noem says she is using former Governor Dennis Daugaard’s budget as a starting point. She says she will make some changes, however.

Governor Kristi Noem says she wants to build relationships and partnerships with South Dakota’s tribal communities.

Toward the end of her first State of the State address, she says she wants the Keystone XL pipeline’s construction safe, clean and efficient.

But a Native American lawmaker says that stance will further strain tribal relations with the state.

Republican Governor Noem says she wants to build state-tribal relations. She says those bonds could address challenges tribes face in education, law and order and economic development.
