This forms the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Hunter Roberts will oversee this new department.

Governor Kristi Noem, in her budget address Tuesday, announced $9 million in reductions to state agencies. "Money is tight this year," prefaced Noem.

The State of South Dakota is ending its 2019 fiscal year with a 19.4 million dollar surplus. That fiscal year ended on June 30th.

Governor Kristi Noem says the state did not spend as much as the legislature anticipated. However, revenue collections came in lower than anticipated.

The appropriations committee will meet next week to pour over the FY19 budget and get a sense of revenue forecasts going forward.

SDPB’s Lee Strubinger is with us to unpack some of FY19 and what the future holds for the state budget.

President Donald Trump made his first appearance in South Dakota today. He stopped in Sioux Falls for a private fundraising event in support of U.S. Representative Kristi Noem’s bid for South Dakota Governor. 

Air Force One touched down at the Sioux Falls Airport shortly after 3 p.m. A group of about 50 supporters greeted the president, who shook a few hands before heading to the motorcade.

Governor Daugaard: State Must Learn From Gear-UP

Governor Dennis Daugaard says the state needs to examine the Gear Up scandal and learn how to avoid similar situations in the future.   

Shortly after the state terminated its relationship with administrating organization, the Mid-Central Education Cooperative, an employee at the program killed himself and his family.  

 Daugaard says the state needs to do a better job ensuring that outside agencies it does business with are adhering to ethical practices.

He made the statements on today’s Dakota Midday.
