Many small communities in South Dakota struggle to boost their economies.  A program provides rural economic development experts to four counties in the northeast part of the state. The program hopes to foster economic development by boosting coloration between neighboring towns and counties.

Tanya Fiddler, Executive Director of the Native CDFI (community development financial institutions) Network discusses economic development in Native communities. Fiddler highlights "policy barriers to asset building" among Native families as well as the challenges of collecting accurate data regarding financial insecurity.

Jobs Needed To Fuel Continued Economic Growth

Yesterday during his State of the State address, Governor Dennis Daugaard told lawmakers that while South Dakota's economy is strong, additional steps need to be taken to train and attract people to fill the jobs needed to fuel continued economic growth. In his speech, the Governor said the state has low unemployment, which is making it difficult for workers to find jobs.
