Universities Seek Funding For New Research Buildings

Universities across South Dakota are proposing building projects to enhance research and development capabilities.    The South Dakota Board of Regents is submitting funding proposals to the governor's office for the projects.  The outcome of the process could lead to new facilities at various university campuses and even a major new building in Rapid City.

Rolling Rez Arts  is a mobile creative space, business training center and bank all in one bus that is crisscrossing Pine Ridge in part to help spur art based economic development.

Thunder Valley CDC Aims To Forge New Tribal Community

An effort to build a new sustainable and energy self-sufficient community on Pine Ridge is underway.
 
The Thunder Valley CDC held a groundbreaking near Sharps Corner on Pine Ridge for the new housing development and community.   Hundreds of people including a number of federal and tribal dignitaries attended. The event comes with an announcement of major funding made available through the federal government for the project.

Thunder Valley Breaking The Mold To Break Ground

A new community is breaking ground on Pine Ridge on Monday.

Officials with the Thunder Valley Community say they are also breaking the mold for the way housing is developed in Indian Country.    

Nick Tilsen, an Oglala Lakota, is the Executive Director of Thunder Valley Community Development Corporation.  He says the project aims to not only address the critical housing shortage, but also to build economic development and a sustainable healthy community  on Pine Ridge.

Costello Discusses CNBC Study

An annual business climate study by the financial cable network CNBC shows South Dakota has moved from the seventh-best state in which to do business to the number one spot in the country. The network cited business development and tax friendliness and productive workers as reasons for the top ranking. Pat Costello, South Dakota Commissioner of Economic Development, comments on South Dakota's ranking as the number one state for business.

The University of South Dakota is sponsoring the second American Visiting Institute for Chinese Entrepreneurs this week in Vermillion. USD Provost Chuck Staben will introduce Professor Bingquan Lu and speak about their friendship and building a "bridge" between South Dakota and China. Also participating will be South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard, the Governor's Office of Economic Development, the South Dakota Department of Agriculture, Valiant Vineyards, Sanford Health, Citibank and Raven Industries.
