Madison Daily Leader publisher Jon Hunter and Sioux Falls Argus Leader political reporter David Montgomery talked about Senator Tim Johnson's announcement that he will not seek re-election in 2014 among other items. 

Jonathan Ellis of the Sioux Falls Argus Leader and Denise Ross of the Mitchell Daily Republic discussed the 2014 U.S. Senate race.  Senator Tim Johnson is expected to announce his plans this month.  Meanwhile, possible candidates for the position are starting to come up in discussion.

State Senate Assistant Majority Leader Tim Rave of Baltic and State Senate Minority Leader Jason Frerichs of Wilmot reviewed the 2013 South Dakota Legislative session.  They talked about the legislature's accomplishments and particular items that were successes or disappointments to their respective parties.

State House Majority Leader David Lust and Minority Leader Bernie Hunhoff talked about the bipartisan economic development package announced last Thursday.  If passed, the deal would set up a new "Building South Dakota" fund, eventually funded with at least $15 million, to make investments in a variety of areas, including education, roads and bridges, housing and loans to local to local businesses.  This segment begins with a legislative update from SDPB reporter Victoria Wicks.

State Senator Deb Peters of Hartford and State Representative Susan Wismer of Britton discuss the possible effects of sequestration on South Dakota.  Peters is Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee while Wismer is a member of the House Appropriations Committee.  Their interviews follow today's Dakota Digest piece by SDPB reporter Charles Michael Ray and a legislative update from SDPB reporter Victoria Wicks.

Bloomberg Television researcher Joshua Glasser is the author of "The Eighteen-Day Running Mate: McGovern, Eagleton, and a Campaign in Crisis."  Glasser's book is the first to uncover the full story behind Eagleton's rise and precipitous fall as a national candidate in 1972.  SDPB's Karl Gehrke speaks with the author on Dakota Midday.
