Emily Griese, Ph.D., director at Sanford Research joins the program to discuss findings from a study of real-time patient data. The data was made available as part of a collaboration with academic institutions to study it for trends and insights.

Ryan Bartz is the Marketing and Communications Specialist for the USD Center for Disabilities and Richard Parent-Johnson is a Senior Research Associate. They discuss the annual Symposium event held Sunday, September 10th through Tuesday, September 12th at the Sioux Falls Convention Center.

South Dakota had begun to narrow the education spending gap with neighboring states at the start of this decade, but state budget cuts in 2011 widened the difference and the gap has continued to grow in recent years. That’s according to an analysis of data by South Dakota Dashboard.

State Demographer To Retire

After 14 years at South Dakota State University, Mike McCurry, State Demographer and supervisor of the SDSU Rural Life and Census Data Center, plans to retire after the 2014 Demography Conference (June 11-13).  The theme of the conference is "Everyone is a Demographer."  That's been McCurry's central message since moving to SDSU's Rural Life and Census Data Center in 2006.  He says we no longer need a university library to obtain demographic data as it's available anytime.  Governor Dennis Daugaard designated McCurry as South Dakota's state demographer in 2011.

Paul Nielson, President of Nielson Brothers Polling and Sam Hurst, advisory group member for the Dakota Poll, discuss the polling in South Dakota. Both organizations have released polling data over the last week, relating in particular to South Dakota Referred Laws 14 & 16 and Ballot Measure 15. They discussed their results and why polling is needed in South Dakota.
