THODOS Dance Chicago is in residency this week in Sisseton and Aberdeen. The Emmy-nominated documentary SHINE airs on SDPB-TV on Sunday, December 11. It's an in-depth look at the making of THODOS Dance Chicago's "A Light in the Dark." Laura Gates of THODOS Dance Chicago joins Dakota Midday to talk about this week's residency in the state.

The LiRa Dance Theater Company is bringing professional dance to local audiences. Artistic directors Raena Rasmussen and Lisa Conlin join us to discuss raising the caliber of dance performance in southeastern South Dakota.

SDHSAA State Cheer and Dance! Oct 24-25 in Watertown

  The Watertown Civic Arena will be the site for the State Competitive Cheer and Dance Championships on October 24-25, 2014. Competition will begin at 5:00 p.m. (CT) on Friday, October 24 for Class A cheer and dance performances. Class AA competition will begin at 11:00 a.m. (CT) on Saturday, October 25. The cheer competition consists of stunting/tumbling and stunting/non-tumbling divisions. Dance competition will have four categories: pom, jazz, hip hop, and kick.

The goal of Flutter Productions is to challenge the perception of people with disabilities through theater and contemporary dance. The company works with organizations to create original works for people of mixed abilities and ages.

Moscow Ballet

Moscow Ballet ballerina Olga Aru has danced around the world, including France, Sweden and Egypt. She was in Cairo during the Tahrir Square protests. She’s in Rapid City this week at Prima School of Dancing, auditioning student dancers for Moscow Ballet’s November 25 performance of the Great Russian Nutcracker at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.

Acclaimed artistic director and coordinator Jodi Lomask takes a deeper look at the creative process that scientists and artists share.  She brings her multi-disciplinary approach in drawing attention to scientific, biological and ecological issues during talks at Black Hills State University Monday night and the Dahl Arts Center in Rapid City on Tuesday night.  Lomask was trained at several prestigious dance schools including the Royal Ballet Academy and London Contemporary Dance School.
