Protests were held this weekend in the Black Hills where people gathered to speak out against the arrival of President Donald Trump. Protesters pointed to the treaty violations that eventually paved the way for the stone carvings on Mount Rushmore.

A peaceful demonstration began last evening in Rapid City shortly before 7pm at Main Street Square. As the evening progressed, a few individuals were taken into police custody with charges of disorderly conduct and disorderly assembly. SDPB's Chynna Lockett joins us with more.

People across the country have been taking to the streets to protest the death of George Floyd, a Minneapolis man who died in police custody after Minneapolis Police Department Officer Derek Chauvin placed his knee on Floyd's neck while Floyd was handcuffed and lying face down, pleading with the officer for his life.  Some protests across the country have devolved into civil unrest, looting, and violence.

Sixteen-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg traveled to the Pine Ridge Reservation over the weekend. She joined another young activist, Tokata Iron Eyes, who was involved in the 2016 protest against the Dakota Access Pipeline, to talk about climate change.

This year, Doctor Reuben Bareis (BAR rice) will be inducted into the South Dakota Hall of Fame. It's a nonprofit that recognizes a culture of excellence in the state. Bareis worked in geriatric medicine for more than 50 years and helped found one of Rapid City's early senior residence centers.
