This weekend the Barnett Family Singers perform at First Congregational Church in downtown Sioux Falls. Their new release is called, "Angels Among Us: Holiday Music to Fight Mental Illness." All proceeds from the concert and CD sales benefit Children's Home Society.  Three years ago the Christmas CD, "Home for the Holidays," raised money to support Bishop Dudley Hospitality House. Joining us in SDPB Sioux Falls studio to talk about the concert and the CDs, we welcome Jeff and Seth Barnett, along with Tommy and Carol Nesbitt.

A new collaboration between Avera Health and Children's Home Society of South Dakota aims to promote mental health, especially among kids.

Author Tom Roberts has written the book A New Norm. It's the story of a boy with overwhelming feelings and the spark that helps him see through the gloom to finding help.

Roberts is joined by Avera Behavioral Health Clinical Program Manager Amber Reints.

Suicide is the nation’s second leading cause of death for children. The CDC reports more than 20% of youth experience one or more mental health problems like depression. The Children’s Home Society and Avera Behavioral Health are partnering to publish a new children’s book to help kids—and parents—start conversations about mental wellness.

In “A New Norm,” readers watch a young boy try to escape the storm cloud that follows him wherever he goes. He eventually focuses on a spark of hope that helps him see all of life’s storms will pass.
