Dr. Rick Holm is a South Dakota physician whose broadcasting career has brought help to thousands. He's the host of On Call With the Prairie Doc on SDPB-TV.

As part of the Brown Bag Book Club, Dr. Holm visits about his book Life's Final Journey: A Guide for Aging and Dying With Grace. In the book he talks about his journey as a doctor, as a broadcaster, and as a cancer patient. He continues his battle with cancer today and continues to be a voice for science, compassion, self-care and for hope.

We talk about how poetry fits into a mindfulness practice and how poems can be good medicine.

Sally Roesch Wagner is a pioneer in women's studies, the retelling of women's history, and intellectual thought. An author and lecturer, Roesch Wagner was one of the first women in the United States to receive a doctorate for work in women's studies. She is also the founder of one of the country's first college women's studies program.

She has taught women's history for 48 years. Her latest book is called The Women's Suffrage Movement. Its an anthology of historical texts with a distinctive focus.

SDPB's Lori Walsh welcomes business leader, author, and "Cupcake Queen" Melissa Johnson for the Brown Bag Book Club. Her book is called Fingers in the Frosting. It's part memoir, part how-to business guide, and all inspiration. 

Johnson talks about finding your purpose, identifying your values, knowing your boundaries, and knowing yourself.

Johnson is the owner of Oh My Cupcakes! She started with $67 and a dream.

Hicks has received grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Bush Artist Foundation, and the Loft Literary Center. He's the author of The Collector of Names, This London, and Adoptable. He also wrote the acclaimed novel The Commandant of Lubezic.

Today, he joins SDPB's Lori Walsh in the Leo P. Flynn Gallery in Sioux Falls to detail his artistic process, eloquently outlined in his most recent book Dancing with the Gods. It's a meditative exploration on the sacred work of art that challenges as much as it inspires.
